Digitalisation has directly or indirectly affected
practically every opportunity and challenge faced by our society. From
education to healthcare, from transport to housing, from service provision to
media and entertainment, from agriculture to industry, and from infrastructure
to the democratic rule of law, developments and opportunities that until
recently would have seemed like science-fiction are on the doorstep. Let’s talk
today about how digitalisation entails to foster Cameroon education system.
Indeed digital technology has enormous potential to improve the quality and
level of our education.
Some innovative projects are trying to ameliorate and eastern
our education system. It is the case of the Kwiizi box created
by the start-up Kwiizi. This tool is a didactic content
customized according to the schools and accessible for free thanks to a wireless
network. Without access to the Internet, learners can access free 7 000 000
articles, 3 000 video courses, 7 000 educational books, 5000 book references,
as well as millions of lectures and MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses) put
online by thousands of teachers. Added to this, we have the application Sukuloo. This is
a web platform and a mobile application allowing parents to have, in real time
via the net, the different grades obtained by their children at school; a progression curve of the student in the different subjects;
details of all homework assignments, delays and absences; or the
opportunity to discuss directly with school officials about the student's
behaviour, etc. There is also the proposition of MTN Cameroon to the Minister of
Secondary Education namely “Digital school”. This is a software solution for
the global management of schools, academic institutions and training centers
facilitating the management of activities optimally on a daily basis. The
proposition also entails mobile money payment of school fees, mobile money
payment for temporary staff or reimbursement and digital card for any school
services or products. Talking about the mobile money services at school, the
Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova LYONGA, has just signed with four
companies operating in the mobile payment, a convention to operationalize in
2019, the payment of tuition fees and official exams by mobile money. These
companies are Orange Cameroon, MTN Express Exchange and CAMPOST. A first step
that we hope will be followed by more meaningful innovations.
